The Institute for Justice and Democracy in Haiti just published our latest semi-annual Human Rights and the Rule of Law in Haiti: Key Developments report. The report is designed to provide the Haiti country condition information necessary to document Haitian asylum, convention against torture and other immigration cases. In fact, we regularly hear from immigration practitioners that IJDH's documentation was critical to them prevailing in asylum and CAT cases.
The report is comprehensively sourced- 445 footnotes-- and covers political violence and other violence by police, gangs and vigilante groups, prison conditions, healthcare, gender-based violence, deportations, land conflicts, governance. It also assess the extent to which the new UN-mandated Gang Suppression Force and the Haitian National Police can provide protection against persecution and torture.
Please let us know if you have suggestions for improvement. We are aware of the possibility that TPS for Haiti will be terminated in July 2026. The next report will not likely come out until at least September, but we would be happy to share updated information on specific issues.
